What a great way to go into Halloween — go orange + black!
I never thought I’d be cheering for the Giants but woo-hoo! they be in the World Series and walloping the T-Rangs {but congrats to them for winning the ALCS and going to the World Series for the first time ever}. My husband, who kinda sort of resembles Brian Wilson {in certain lighting, with beard, sans mohawk…okay, that’s probably every guy}, and I, are hoping there won’t be any ”torture“ for the remaining WS games.
Note: Most information expressed in this post was absorbed by verbal-osmosis via my husband repeatedly explaining to me about ”all things baseball”. Apparently there have play-offs and sacrifices. So much to learn.
After perusing the AMC “Mad Men” website {a Monday morning ritual — amongst reading thorough commentary/analysis — after watching a new episode the night prior}, I noticed this MM book. Illustrated by Dyna Moe, who created the MM avatar, the book has humorous tidbits and factoids about the show, it’s characters and environment with, of course, playful illustrations. This will definitely feed my Maddiction, at least until season 5 {July 2011, you could not be farther away, sigh}. I wish they’d come out with a Style & Fashion File book for this show, I’d have my fix…maybe….
Can you believe there’s only ONE more episode left for this season?
Beautiful, modern-decadent interiors by S.R. Gambrel for a West Village townhouse in NYC. I love how the blue hue walls change from vibrant turquoise to moody midnight.
John Derian’s greatness returns to my shopping mecca, Target! {yay!} I picked up a set of silhouette coasters this weekend, and thought the collection {or what I saw available at my local store} was just as covert-worthy as JD’s 2008 collaboration. I don’t think I want to use these as coasters, per se, but maybe as some stylish-pseudo-paperweights or coffee table decor {aka: clutter}…not sure.
I’m still seriously debating whether I should go back and pick up the colorful phrenology tray {which, as I write this, is probably already sold out}. I’m still very happy with my calligraphy-alphabet tray I got from the last JD-for-Target collection.
Although these are “technically” dinner + salad plates, I still think they can be repurposed as trays or even mini-platters {which I guess is the same thing as a tray} :
I thought harem pants were forever jettisoned as a style faux pas. But they’ve slowly crept back into fashion consciousness the past couple years {or maybe they never left}. You’d think that adding sequins everywhere would be more repulsive (aka: grandma-does-Vegas meets early ’90s), but somehow they look kind of…cool? But me dressing “cool” is a little outside my element / comfort-zone.
{JCrew, “Sequin Harem Pants”, moderately priced + sold out: $650}
I’d quit my day job as assistant pencil-pusher if I could summen up baking power goodness à la Coco Cakes! These whimsical cakes + cupcakes are almost too cute to eat! {Almost…}
How could I forget your 2nd birthday like that? I’m not just 1 or 2 days late, nay, I be more than two weeks late. I didn’t mean to neglect you like that, don’t be mad, ‘k? To make it up to you, I’m posting some whimsical, b-day imagery. Here’s to more {un-belated} blog birthdays!
I fancied these dandy alphabet letter totes from here, but then I found a diy-version via Brooke Reynolds’ delightfully inspirational blog, inchmark {which I’ve mentioned way back here}. These would make great, personalized gift bags for almost any occassion — and who wouldn’t want one of these? You could use them to tote books, hold kids’ supplies, groceries…you get the idea.
I couldn’t help myself. I swear I don’t like movies that much but I had to post this awesome poster of Sofia Coppola’s upcoming film, Somewhere.
On a related note: Elle Fanning is so stinking cute + adorable! – loved her in TCCoBB.
I’m kind of digging the familiar Lost in Translation feel. Her trailers are more like concise mini-music videos — they always have the perfect song-to-film-clips ratio.
Admittedly, I didn’t know who Josef Frank was until I saw the google logo honoring his birthday last month, but, I did recognize his work / style influence {notably from my overexposure to Anthropologie and Ikea — thanks consumerism!}. After I did a little google-ing, I stumbled upon another Swedish modernist, Stig Lindberg. Both designers created eccentric, whimsical prints, as well as furniture and ceramics/pottery {reminiscent of the ’50s and ’60s}.
Josef Frank: his use of bright colors and organic shapes are almost dizzying — very energetic + vibrant, almost like looking at cellular matter through a microscope.

Stig Lindberg: his work often dappled in geometric shapes and were a little more subdued, but still playful.
