Broken foot + endless hours of staying at home = classic Japanese movie-watching.
Husband and I didn’t start watching samurai/Kurosawa movies until we were married {and I’m half Japanese! why did it take us so long?}, and now we cannot get enough of them. Although not hipster aficionados {yet}, we have seen at least 15 Kurosawa movies, and at least 10 of them feature Toshiro Mifune — by far the coolest tough-guy actor in all Japanese filmdom. He’s like the Steve McQueen of the East; he’s just that awesome. {Some faves: Yojimbo — A Fist Full of Dollars was based of this; Rashomon; Seven Samurai…}
Although summer is my least favorite season {if you lived in hot upper 90/low 100 degree weather for a good 5+ months out of the year, you would too…unless you’re a snowbird}, I love how whimsical and fresh Saltwater’s summer line looks.
Oh, I cannot wait for this movie to come out {neither can Husband, he’s a huge fan of WTWTA}. I just hope Jonze didn’t hipsterfy this darling story to death. I mean, I don’t want to watch a 120-minute epic music video of Karen O’s vocal mastery. I guess I should just be glad it’s not in CGI, or “produced” by Michael Bay.
This handheld sewing machine seems crazy! Does it work? I think I’ll have to buy this guy and find out! It might come in handy for quick hemming or craft projects….
{Pocket change price tag: $15}
Oh, but I would love to have this industrial-looking machine! Straight out of 1930…
{Yikes! $300}
Wow, I’m loving the sewing goods that Urban is now promoting. My mom said that sewing was really popular in the ’70s and it looks like there’s a resurgence, especially if sewing supplies are being sold at mainstream stores.
{This looks like a tool from Edward Scissorhands’ home; $12}
I kind of thought gladiators were “done” but all the new sandals I’ve seen for spring/summer collections are either variations of the gladiator or the annual wedge /espadrille wedge. At first, I hated the gladiators — I knew they would make visual stumps of my legs. But then I caved and started pining for a pair, only to not find any that I liked. Until now. I think I can handle these pyramid-studded gray beauties — simple yet not expected.
Apologies {to the 3.5 readers who stumble upon this little blog on an average-basis} for the lack of posts lately. I’ve gotten myself in a little car accident snafu and am recovering from foot-metatarsal + ligament surgery. {Booo…} To avoid cabin-fever I think I might order this book to keep my mind off things…
