Gap Vote

This election looms so large that voting has become a viable commodity. Looks like Gap is no different, you can buy their “Vote for” shirts here. And yes, that’s Bill Maher. And yes, he wants to Vote for BBQ (?!).

How-To: Sweater Folding

The weather is starting to get chilly enough to actually bust out the cardigan or sweater from the hibernating plastic bins under my bed. And, to keep Husband’s woolly merinos and my cashmere sweaters in nice shape, I put to use the folding skills I obligingly mastered during my six long years in retail.

{Yes, retail is this rewarding.}

1. Lay sweater face down, fold each arm straight across.
2. Fold one side to the middle.
3. Fold over the other side, so that the sleeve edges meet in the center
4. Fold up once or twice, depending on the thickness of the sweater.

Hipster Names

Ah, this article made me laugh out loud, “10 Ways to Avoid Hipster Baby Names.” I’m afraid the list of baby names I secretly hoard in my brain fall victim to rule #4:

Avoid the names of high-falutin’ writers.
This is kind of a thin line. We’d say Auden, Austen, Flannery, Harper,
Tennessee, and Tennyson are dripping in hipsterdom; Edith, Eudora,
and Ellison, still okay.

Creepy Cookies

Mmm! These look good! Looks like I’ll be doing some baking this week…

{Recipes here and here.}

Quilting

I recently signed up for a beginner’s quilting class and I am psyched…and apprehensive {I’m terrible at geometry and the idea of cutting out trillions of perfectly measured little squares + triangles scares me}. And who says quilts have to be country patchwork drab? I’d be hard pressed to make a dumpy quilt with these lovely fabrics:
