I was delighted to see Domo-Kun as the Halloween mascot at Target this past weekend.
For those of you who aren’t on a first-name basis with Domo, he’s been entertaining the Japanese viewing audience as the official mascot of a major network there. To me, he’s one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen– he actually makes me want to buy Target brand candy corn. It’s also nice to see something my mom introduced to me as a kid come full circle and back into the world again.
You’ve come a long way Domo…with pumpkins!

Instead of pretending that I know what I’m talking about, I’ve asked my husband to guest write this post about the new G1 phone! {Can’t wait to order ours this month!}

As frustratingly cute as the iPhone is, the G1 is better, and not just for developers like me, but for anyone who wants a smartphone that can actually hold its own at Smartphone University. The main reason is Android, an open-source {that means free and community driven} operating system for phones. The G1 is the first phone to have it, though more will follow, and they’ve already created apps that put the iPhone to shame. Here’s a sampling…
GoCart: This app will allow you to scan barcodes with your phone’s camera then scan the internet (and Google Maps) for the closest/cheapest prices for said product. They even have a video.
CompareEverywhere: just like GoCart but in color!!
CookingCapaules: Use your phone to cook dinner {without searching for the nearest Pizza Hut}
Commandro: Search for the nearest Pizza Hut.
… and many more.
These are just the apps that have appeared so far, before there’s a phone. For all of you who kept your iPhone fanaticism in check and refused Apple’s ridiculous contracts, your boat {in phone form} has finally come to port. For shame, iPhone, for shame…

Excited about my haircut next week! Nothing too drastic: chop off some inches here, carve some layers there, maybe even some side-swept bangs. My hairstylist, Manoug, is a longtime friend with mad skills so this will be extra fun! Look at his new salon in downtown — so lux + industrial! {Loves it.}

I love Madeline Weinrib’s cotton stripe rugs, I like the Ikea one better. It might be the price tag. It will be hard to talk my husband into buying this though, he calls it the “Beetlejuice rug” {read: that thing isn’t going in our living room}.

I’m no professional connoisseur of cheese, but I’m definitely a fan, especially of the sharp variety {love me some Whole Foods robusto gouda}. And now I’ve added crumbled feta to my list of favs. {Honestly, I’m probably the last person to notice the deliciousness of this sharp + grainy goodness}. Feta cheese makes everything taste 110% more awesome. It’s my new “salt + pepper”. Salad too bland? Add feta. Pizza missing something? Add feta. Boring hamburger? ADD FETA! Sigh, like I need another food to be obsessed about!

I suppose it’s not right that I now have Halloween on the mind. I know, it’s too early to be talking about such things; but Halloween takes place during my favorite time of the year: Autumn! So I can’t help but think of all the fun crafts, pumpkin-carving, chilly nights, apple cider… So to help me get ready, I’ve signed up for the Martha Stewart “Halloween Workshop“; first project starts Monday!

Over Labor Day weekend my husband and I {or, just my husband} finally {finally!!} got around to installing the West Elm capiz chandelier that we ordered …four…MONTHS ago. And sweet georgia brown, does it make a statement! It completely changed the lighting atmosphere in our bedroom from stale + dim to soft + inviting.

Is it wrong that I like these shoes? I love the stability of the chunky-20s-kitten heel and the grey leather — I can picture wearing these with some black opaque tights and a wool skirt…but is this too grandma-school-marm-ish?

Whenever I meet an old friend or need to give someone my contact info, I am always scrambling to find 1) a pen, and 2) any scrap of paper I can write on. Most of the time I have to borrow the pen and rip off a corner of an old bill envelope hiding at the bottom of my purse. Wow, not very classy {and easily lost or mistaken for trash}. Well no more! I’ve placed a custom order on Etsy for these beauties {half with an image of an acorn, the other half with a tree}:

{Laura Beth, the seller, is extremely nice and very accommodating!}
